How to Find the Best Sniper Spot and Use it to Your Advantage
Intro
This tutorial will teach you the basics of learning how to find the best sniper spot in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The art of being a sniper is a very important role because he controls the game. The sniper covers his men and neutralizes his enemies.
Items Needed
-sniper rifle
-recommended perks: Claymores X2, Stopping Power, Deep Impact or Iron Lungs
Step #1: Finding Cover
It’s important for a sniper to keep himself concealed but at the same time see his target. That’s why I find most Russian maps to be the best since you get to wear a ghillie suit. When looking for a spot on a Russian map look for a very grassy spot where you can stay prone. On a desert map however, it’s best to stay in a building where a small fragment of you body can be seen. Remember if you can see your target you target can see you.
On your left you see a desert map called Strike.
On your left you see a Russian map called Overgrown
Step #2: Semi-Automatic or Bolt Action?
Your choice of sniper rifle is very important. You have two different categories of sniper rifles: Semi-Automatic and Bolt Action. There’s a difference between the two and each have its pros and cons.
Category |
Pros |
Cons |
Semi-Automatic |
- can shoot multiple rounds without the need of pulling a bolt (in other words, it shoots fast) -has a magazine size of 7 or more (more rounds get fired without the need of reloading) - has less recoil then a bolt action sniper, unless it’s the Barrett .50 Caliber (the gun doesn’t produce much kickback) -good for killing multiple enemies |
-shoots smaller rounds then Bolt Action rifles -there are more moving parts in a semi-automatic sniper, this makes the sniper less lethal -the reloading takes longer then Bolt Action rifles -without the perk Stopping Power (increases damage) the sniper requires two or more rounds fired, unless shot in the neck or head
|
Bolt Action |
- the motto of a sniper states “1 shot 1 kill” and that’s what this type of sniper does -reloads by putting each round in one at a time, this gives you the option to stop reloading and is much faster then a semi automatic sniper -only the spring and the pin move when you fire therefore more energy is used to fire the round, making it more powerful -shoots fairly large rounds and can shoot through many surfaces more effectively then the semi automatic snipers |
-has a slow rate of fire -requires a bolt to be pulled in order to fire again -you sometimes lose your target when you shoot due to the recoil - you cant really kill multiple enemies - the round capacity is only 5 and under - should only be used for long range sniping |
Step #3: Which Sniper should I use?
Now that you know about the pros and cons of the semi-automatic and bolt action sniper it’s time to look at the snipers themselves.

- a bolt action gun, that’s recommended for sniper that enjoy the ACOG sight and bolt action sniper with low recoil -stopping power should be added |

-semi automatic sniper rifle -stopping power and bandolier (extra ammo) recommended -has the lowest recoil of any sniper |

-bolt action -can kill an enemy in one shot even without stopping power |

-semi automatic -has so much recoil you can lose your target -the round is so huge it can pierce tanks -can kill an enemy without stopping power |
*ACOG is a sight that reduces range but has a faster reaction time when looking in the sight. It’s usually recommended to snipers that enjoy moving around the map instead of sniping from one spot.
^The less recoil the better
The ratings are based on all firearms in the game
Step #4: Taking Advantage of the UAV
When your team has a UAV in the air (which is a radar that shows the enemies position on you GPS) you should try to take advantage of it and quickly find a building that can take out the enemy from there. The building you chose should be, to far for a normal rifle to reach, should only reveal your sniper and your head and lastly the building you choose should have claymore placed in it, which are trip mines just in case someone wants to sneak up behind you.
Step #5: Why You Shouldn’t be “Trigger Happy” with a Sniper
When a sniper is hidden it’s important not to fire for any reason (unless he sees his target). This is because you produce a muzzle flash and a loud sound when you fire which can reveal your position.
I hope you learned a lot about the zen and art of sniping through these 5 simple steps and I hope you use them online.
